JOB SUMMARY
The Research Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting study specimens and assisting with receiving, handling, storage, shipment of the samples, and maintaining laboratory inventory. This position places a heavy emphasis on attention to detail, verifying and capturing research participant data accurately, and the ability to multitask efficiently and accurately is required.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs basic measurement and venipuncture checks on participants according to the protocol after appropriate training.
- Collects and manages study specimens according to protocol.
- Creates and manages phlebotomy research kits, ensuring quality control.
- Schedules and calls subjects for appointments, contacts participants with reminders or other requirements.
- Prepares and maintains regulatory documents, including consent forms and master subject logs, and file correspondence.
- Assists with the preparation, processing, and shipping of specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements.
- Orders and maintains equipment and supplies.
- Safely works with potentially biohazardous biological specimens under the USACT Environmental Health & Safety guidelines.
- Delivers professional and courteous customer service to patients.

- General knowledge of medical terminology.

- IV and venous access device management skills
- Organizational skills to troubleshoot unplanned situations while still meeting established USACT deadlines.
- Microsoft Office suite or ability to learn new software.

- Must maintain punctuality, maintain good attendance, and be flexible to work hours when scheduled study subjects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Laboratory experience of two (2) years
- Research experience of one (1) year
Preferred
- Two-year college degree
- Basic Life Support Certificate
- Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I)
